Local hoofers to benefit Make-A-Wish

Members of a local hiking club are going to tackle the Foothills Trail for the benefit of Make-A-Wish South Carolina.  The organization grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.  Two of the hikers entered in this Saturday’s hike have distinguished themselves by raising $26 thousand, with one of them, Bill Strickland of Westminster, raising $18 thousand of that amount.  Strickland is a renowned hiker, having conquered the Appalachian Trail.  He, along with Martha Roberts of Seneca, will be among nearly 50 hikers on Saturday who will depart from Whitewater Falls bound for Oconee State Park and trek a distance of 28.3 miles.  The hikers will be walking so early in the morning that they’ll need to wear headlamps to see where they are going.  Even at this late date, Roberts and Strickland are accepting additional donations for Make-A-Wish.  You can donate directly through the website sctrailblazechallenge.org.
