Looking forward to his clients’ day in court

A defense lawyer looks forward to his clients day in court next month to try to counteract a judge’s preliminary ruling that gaming machines seized last month are illegal. “Some of the machines print tickets showing there’s no cash value and say the machines comply with state law,” Gruber Sires of Seneca told reporters this afternoon. Sires takes the position that Palmetto Skills and Megatouch gaming machines are legal under state law and the machines, containing whatever money, should be returned to their rightful owners. Sires represents the owners of 12 of the machines seized from Oconee County businesses and he’s not sure that, in accord with state law, each machine seized was inspected. That’s something Sires said he’ll ascertain during a hearing before Oconee Magistrate Blake Norton 10 a-m Tuesday, June 18 in Walhalla.
