Lots of “Oompah” music next week!

Those between Sertoma Field and Walhalla’s downtown may get German music in stereo next week.  The Little German Band, as always, will play at Sertoma Field at this year’s Oktoberfest.  Vanessa Penton of the chamber of commerce announced today that a polka band is going to play on the green downtown.  Penton describes the act as a polka band “with attitude.”  The festival, which started in 1979, is set for a three-day run of music, arts and crafts, carnival rides and fireworks Friday through Sunday, October 16-18.   Vendors will offer food and drink—such as bratwurst, roasted corn, and barbecue.  Oktoberfest celebrates Walhalla’s founding by immigrants from northern Germany who arrived in Charleston and made their way to Walhalla in 1850.  Admission to Oktoberfest is $5 dollars for adults and $3 dollars for children.
