Lowering budget at mid-stream

Acting at the direction of Oconee school trustees, the district administration proposes to cut nearly $900 thousand in salaries from the current year. The proposal is to be made during Monday’s school board meeting by Dr. Michael Thorsland, assistant superintendent of operations. Thorsland explains it’s being accomplished by further analyzing what is projected to be spent to reflect that those who’ve taken positions to fill retirements are earning less than what the veteran employees made. Further, it’s apparent that it’s a reflection of what shapes to be another tight year for finances, both at the local and state levels.
