Lowering the cost of electric power

Westminster is looking for a company to help it determine what can be done to lower the cost of electric power. The idea, according to City Administrator Jeff Lord, is to study the costs and try to make its electric power retail rates more competitive. Lord confirmed today that Westminster is working with one business to determine if it can reduce its electric power use to save on expenses. Westminster is in a long-term contract to buy power wholesale from PMPA—an upstate consortium of municipalities who have a financial interest in a Duke Energy nuclear reactor. Improving the city’s environment for business development is part of Westminster’s work plan recently adopted by the city council.
