Magistrate’s worker arrested

An arrest warrant alleges crime occurred within the office of the Walhalla Magistrate. The state police yesterday announced the arrest of a 44-year old Westminster woman in an investigation of missing funds from the Walhalla Summary Court, where she worked. According to the state Law Enforcement Division, Constance Louise Weaver was charged with embezzling public funds. It’s a crime that carries a penalty on conviction of up to five years in prison and a fine at the court’s discretion. The arrest affidavit alleges the crime occurred “while the defendant was employed as a clerk at Walhalla Summary Court. She was charged with the safekeeping, transfer and disbursement of public funds. Further from June 2014 until March 2015, the defendant did unlawfully alter court records and documents in order to take approximately $2,315.50 from traffic fines collected and use for her personal gain….” The state police investigated at the request of the Oconee Sheriff’s Office and the county’s chief magistrate.
