Main Street to remain open during Ok’fest

Walhalla’s new two-lane Main Street in the downtown will remain open for thru traffic during the city’s biggest event of the year.  Vanessa Penton of the Greater Walhalla Chamber of Commerce today announced a consensus to keep Main downtown open for motorized traffic and position the street vendors in the angle parking spaces, to allow the public to access from the sidewalks.  Without the closing of the middle two blocks of Main Street, everyone–pedestrians and drivers alike–should keep safety foremost in their minds during the festival weekend–Friday through Sunday, October 21-23.  To be safe, Penton says, it’s important for the walking public to use the crosswalks when going from one side the street to the other.  By today, 75 vendors had reserved space downtown.  An additional larger number of vendors will take up booth space at the main Oktoberfest venue–N. Katherine Street at Sertoma Field.
