In the American League, the Detroit Tigers blanked the Oakland A’s 6-0 Thursday night in Oakland to win their best-of-five American League Division Series 3 games to 2. Tigers ace Justin Verlander pitched a four-hit gem, his first career postseason shutout and complete game. The Baltimore Orioles downed the New York Yankees 2-1 Thursday night in the Bronx, needing 13 innings to get the win and tie up the best-of-five American League Division Series at 2 games to 2. J.J. Hardy got the game-winning hit for the Orioles with an RBI double. The deciding Game 5 will be played Friday night in New York.
