Man charged with woman’s murder

An Oconee County woman was shot dead allegedly by a man whose home she visited for the purpose of obtaining prescription medication. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw made the announcement Friday evening as the investigation by his office led to the arrest of Roger Lane Qualls on the charge of murder. The victim in Thursday night’s shooting at the Qualls home near Westminster was a 54-year old Westminster resident, Kathy Elaine Owens. Her body was found on a couch in the Qualls’ living room. She had been shot in the head. Crenshaw said, “Further details concerning this death cannot be released at this time. The investigation is continuing as forensic evidence was gathered and will be sent to SLED for examination.” Qualls remained in detention Saturday in the Oconee County lockup.
