Marines arrive to patriotic reception

Marines from North Carolina and from the South Carolina Wounded Warrior Regiment have arrived for a few days of rest and relaxation. They were greeted by those who lined a parade route yesterday in a procession led by motorcycles. Members of the public responded with signs, flag-waving and expressions of thank you. Some of the more spectacular scenes included Lake Keowee, where a flotilla of boats assembled decorated in patriotic colors. On 130 in front of Wynnward Pointe, fire department apparatus draped a large American flag over the highway. Each year volunteers led by Keowee Key, partner with the Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital of Greenville to host three and a half days of “Honoring Their Service.” Events take place on the Upstate’s lakes and rivers. The Marines are to be treated to outdoor activities such as fishing, golfing, river tubing, hiking, and archery.
