Marker honors fallen officer

Outside Oconee Law Enforcement Center now stands a marker in memory of a fallen officer. A solemn ceremony remembered the service of Bill Schuck, who died alone while on duty in an accident involving his squad car during the night in a rural part of the county. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said the tragedy occurred five years ago tomorrow. The ceremony this afternoon attracted a large crowd, including members of Schuck’s family who came from out of town. Crenshaw and retired Sheriff James Singleton unveiled the marker, which stands next to a separate marker that marks the death of a K-9 dog named Dasher.
