Mayberry Days to stay in Westminster

The town that looks like Mayberry is going to keep Mayberry Days.  The nostalgic remembrance of a small town era will remain in Westminster.  In need of financial help, according to its organizer, Mayberry Days got it last night on a vote of the Westminster City Council.  The council voted to appropriate $5 thousand dollars to help the festival book acts that impersonate the travails of the character Sheriff Andy Taylor and the rest of the cast from TV’s Mayberry.   Mayberry Days’ organizer Tom Rusk and the mayor and council parted company last night in a good spirit, as the commitment assures the city of a large draw of visitors.  This year’s event is scheduled May 6-7. In his presentation to the council, Rusk showed disappointment that Oconee’s “A-TAX” Commission had cut his request in half, but he said he will appeal during the February 26 “A-TAX” meeting.
