Mayor pledges to improve handicap access

Mayor Danny Edwards says he has started discussion with Walhalla’s engineers to look for ways to improve access for the handicap in the downtown.  After a resident last night pointed out a lack of handicap ramps as part of Streetscape work, Edwards made this statement:  “There is going to be 8 handicap parking spaces on the 4 block area of Main Street.  The spaces were put on the corners to make it easier to cross the street.  Also, new ADA requirements say that the ramp length must be a minimum of 6 ft.  We as a city are always interested in working with our handicapped citizens, we will continue to look for ways to improve….”
