Mayor predicts Streetscape bids to go out soon

Mayor Danny Edwards predicts contractor bids will soon be requested for what Walhalla officials envision as stage one of Streetscape—the re-make of a four-block area of the downtown. Edwards made his prediction last night during a City Hall meeting after hearing Scott Parris, the utilities superintendent, report a variety of developments as Walhalla gets closer to converting Main Street, from Ann to Tugaloo, to a two-lane, 30-mile an hour street with a median. From Parris, the mayor and council learned last night that, at the state DOT’s insistence, the median may be more concrete than vegetation. Parris said it will resemble “a wide sidewalk with curbing.” Undecided is whether the state, which owns and maintains Main Street, will permit trees inside the median.
