Mayor proposes aid for the auditorium

An idea floated last night by the Walhalla mayor appears to have traction. Mayor Danny Edwards suggested the city donate $5 thousand to help the Walhalla Civic Auditorium pay to repair its roof. Councilman T-J Bagwell says he knows of no other organization that brings more people from the outside to Walhalla. The money would come from the city’s hospitality fund account which, according to City Administrator Nancy Goehle, has reached $80 thousand. The city’s elected leaders at budget time appear to have a soft spot in their heart for Walhalla’s 67 employees. Bagwell and Edwards say they favor a cost of living increase which would be the employees first in two years.
