Meeting to discuss Oconee Nuclear’s major projects

The NRC, the government’s nuclear watchdog, has scheduled a meeting next week to talk about the status of major projects at the Oconee plant, and the public is invited to attend. One of those projects is an inflated dome that has been constructed to store equipment that can be used in the event of flooding or tornado damage to the plant complex. Another topic the federal regulators wish to speak with Duke officials about is changes made as the result of the 2011 Japan nuclear plant accident. The meeting will run 8 a-m to 3 p-m Wednesday, May 27, with a one hour-break for lunch, in the Oconee Office Complex, 155 E. Pickens Highway. NRC officials will be able to answer questions after the business portion of the meeting, at approximately 2:15 p-m.
