Mental health issues beset prisoners

Jail is no fun place to be.  The Oconee Sheriff on Friday told a meeting in Seneca that between 30 and 40 percent of the inmate population has battled depression.  At least once a week a service is extended to the county’s prisoners.  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says a mental health professional makes a weekly visit to the jail in Walhalla to evaluate prisoners.  Crenshaw says part of the old jail might be a good place for a pilot program for prisoners with mental health issues.
