Michael Carrera Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

South Carolina freshman forward Michael Carrera was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday, Nov. 12, after scoring 17 points and gathering 15 rebounds in a win over Milwaukee on Sunday in the opening round of the Hoops for Hope Classic in Columbia. The high-energy forward shot 50 percent for the game, and hit a perfect 5-of-5 attempts from the free throw line. Carrera had a near double-double with nine points and nine rebounds at halftime, and quickly claimed the double-double in the second half. He was instrumental in the overtime period as well, hitting two free throws early in the five-minute session to give the Gamecocks the lead for good. The win marked the first for Frank Martin as head coach of the Gamecocks.
