Michelin is the “street talk” in Fair Play

An investment of $250 million dollars, between 150-175 jobs—and jobs that pay as much as $22.50 an hour. Oconee County leaders last night were not identifying the manufacturing company that’s headed to the Golden Corner Commerce Park, but “street talk” in Fair Play is that “Project Sarah” will translate to a Michelin plant. And this morning the Anderson Independent-Mail quotes a source connected to the county that it is, in fact, to be a Michelin North America plant. Whatever is on the way, according to Chairman Joel Thrift of County Council, is going to make a boom town out of the Fair Play area—an area that has long missed out on economic development. The council last night gave second reading to a fee in place of tax and an incentive agreement covering the still code-named project Sarah. But Reg Dexter, councilman for District Five, told 96.3/WGOG NEWS that he expects the official announcement to be made in time for council’s next meeting to allow for a public hearing and final consideration of the incentive agreements.
