Michelin postscript

A postscript today to the Michelin company decision to bypass Oconee County for Spartanburg County for its new distribution center.  Richard Blackwell called it very said.  The executive director of Oconee Economic Alliance said his staff and the Oconee County Council had invested three years into attempting to land the distribution center and place it in the county’s undeveloped Golden Corner Commerce Park at Fair Play.  In a report at today’s alliance board meeting, Blackwell wrote:  “From my understanding, there was a need for a larger site combined with a greater reliance on the South Carolina Port facility and being closer to the I-26 corridor.  The Spartanburg location will sit on about 680 acres along State 101 near its intersection with State 417.  Nothing Oconee County have done further.”  Blackwell’s colleague Russell Johnson told the board his office sees the Golden Corner park on 59 “as a distribution target.”
