Mike Lucas doesn’t hold back

The polite and articulate Oconee District Superintendent of Education comports himself not in a shy way when expressing what he believes is best for today’s students. It’s in keeping, Dr. Lucas says, with the confidence the county trustees have in him. And so, at times, Lucas may ruffle a feather or two by challenging status quo—-or even authority. Lucas has a 30-year background in the education field. He admitted today that some of the questions he asked of the State Department of Education elicited a response that, at times, the department considers his questions “obtuse.” Lucas told 96.3/WGOG NEWS: “I think questions make us perform better. So I think that my perspective, hopefully, will be considered because I have done this for a long time. My goal is to do things to help kids in Oconee County to be more successful,” Lucas said.
