Missing student found safe

A student at Keowee Elementary School went missing for about two hours yesterday afternoon when he walked outside and the door behind him locked. The third grader, wearing a coat, left the school building shortly after 1:30, and the Sheriff’s Office was notified one hour later. Officers employed K-9 units and had the Ranger One helicopter ready to fly. But deputies and school officials received word that a motorist found the boy on Boone Dock Trail, a dirt road behind the school. Sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Watt said the child was returned to school around 3:30 and placed with his family. Paramedics were called to check the boy’s condition, but officials say he appeared to be OK.
