Mobile home destroyed by fire

An early Sunday morning fire destroyed a single-wide mobile home in Oconee County.  Rural Fire Control reports the Oakway Volunteer Fire Department received the primary call to 365 Armstrong Road at 4 o’clock in the morning.  No one reported hurt.  The residents at that mobile home were believed to have been away at the time.  American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers are assisting those displaced by the fire by providing financial assistance for food, clothing, and other essentials, and comfort kits containing personal hygiene items. September is National Preparedness Month and the Red Cross is asking people to take two simple steps that can help save lives: check their existing smoke alarms and practice fire drills at home. Every household
should develop a fire escape plan [1] and practice it several times a year and at different times of the day. Install smoke alarms [2] on every level of the home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. Test them every month and replace the batteries when needed.
