Monday NFL Notes

In the NFL on Sunday, Josh Freeman threw a touchdown pass to Mike Williams and Doug Martin ran for 142 yards, including a 40 yard touchdown run, in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 22-17 win over Atlanta.

Elsewhere, Drew Brees made more NFL history in New Orleans’ finale, but so did the Saints’ defense in an undesireable way as the Carolina Panthers rallied for a 44-38 win that dropped the Saints to their first losing season since 2007. The bright spot for New Orleans – Drew Brees became the first player to eclipse 5,000 yards three times.

It’s Black Monday in the NFL. The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Monday that they have fired general manager Gene Smith after a woeful 2-14 season, the worst in franchise history.

Andy Reid is out after 14 years coaching the Philadelphia Eagles.

San Diego Chargers coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith will be fired Monday,

The Kansas City Chiefs will fire coach Romeo Crennel on Monday, but not general manager Scott Pioli, at least not now, according to league sources.
