MONDAY SPORTS: Broncos, Seahawks, headed to big game

It’s going to be the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos playing for the NFL championship on February 2nd in New Jersey, after they won their conference titles Sunday. In the battle of premier quarterbacks, Peyton Manning and the Broncos defeated the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots 26-16 in Denver to win the AFC crown. The Seahawks won the NFC title with a 23-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Seattle, getting the winning points on a 35-yard, fourth-down touchdown pass by quarterback Russell Wilson, and sealing the victory when Richard Sherman deflected a pass from 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick to Seahawks teammate Malcolm Smith for an interception with just seconds left to play.

Clemson University and head football coach Dabo Swinney have agreed to a new eight-year deal, the athletic department announced over the weekend. The terms were approved by the Clemson University Board of Trustees Compensation Committee.Swinney has compiled a 51-23 mark over his first six seasons (five full seasons), posting a 33-12 record in Atlantic Coast Conference games and advancing to postseason bowl play each year.
