Jerry Rice’s team won the first Pro Bowl in its new format over Deion Sanders’ team, getting the 22-21 win on a two-point conversion by the Carolina Panthers’ Mike Tolbert, after the Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarco Murray caught a 20-yard touchdown pass with 41 seconds left to play. The game was played in steady rain, but warm temperatures, in Hawaii, and saw six interceptions and nine sacks. Instead of playing by league, the Pro Bowl players were picked by the retired NFL stars, Rice and Sanders, for their teams in a new draft format intended to improve the game, a set-up that saw some usual teammates having to compete a against each other.
