More movement for “Sewer South” in 2015-16

Oconee County Council members were told last night that by spring they can expect more progress to expand the county’s “Sewer South” project into the southern end of the county.  Specifically, County Administrator Scott Moulder predicted, a contract will be issued to run a line from the Golden Corner Commerce Park to exit 2 on I-85.  It would be the county’s first foray with infrastructure onto the interstate, which Councilman Joel Thrift says represents the county’s best chance for economic development.  A four and a half mile stretch of I-85, from the Georgia bridge northward, lies in Oconee County and much of the property there is believed to be available to developers at the right price.  Last night’s discussions led into the eventual need to extend sewer as far south as exit 1—if the proposed Sanctuary Pointe resort project gets the traction it needs.  But, for now, Reg Dexter, whose district covers I-85, says the county’s best hope for sewer customers there is probably exit 4 at the Anderson County line.
