More people at work, but more jobless claims filed

The number of South Carolinians on the job set a record in May. And the Department of Employment and Workforce reports since May 2014, 65 thousand people have found work. The state’s overall jobless rate was 6.8%. The May 2015 report shows Oconee and Pickens counties tied with a jobless rate of 6.3%. For Oconee, the 6.3% was one-half of a percent point higher than April. However, Oconee’s job rolls grew in May to 35,398. That’s an increase of 238 workers since April.
