Most West Union voters stay home

For an election that held little drama, most West Union voters stayed home on Tuesday.  Only 18 town residents out of 141 cast ballots and re-elected un-opposed Mayor Linda Oliver, who tallied 16 votes.  Three ballot candidates for four council seats were declared unofficial winners:  Bethany James, David Scealf, and Kelly Weiser.  Eight write-in votes were enough to award the fourth seat to Doug Moore.  But an election official said the question last night was whether Moore would accept. Should Moore be unable or unwilling to serve, according to county election officials, a special election to fill the vacancy would be necessary.  According to Joy Scharich, elections director, the vote will be certified on Thursday.
