Moving up the court calendar

The pre-trial settlement of an auto accident lawsuit has moved to trial position number one Oconee County’s oldest pending civil lawsuit. It’s the seven-year old case that alleges fraud and misrepresentation by a Duke Energy subsidiary that acquired property more than 50 years ago to build what today is the Keowee-Toxaway project in Oconee County. A court officer tells 96.3/WGOG NEWS that the case of the estate of Wallace McMahan versus Crescent Resources and others now tops the docket for next week’s term of the Oconee Common Pleas Court. But whether the cases actually get tried often depend on what happens in the days and weeks ahead of a court term, and 96.3/WGOG NEWS, as yet, has learned of no official confirmation that McMahan versus Crescent will go Monday. The case, filed in 2007, has been delayed over the years, in part, due to the deaths of some of the principals and others involved.
