Multiple charges bring prison sentence

Oconee General Sessions Court defendant Mark Eldon Staton was ordered today to serve a four-year prison term for larceny and drug offenses, to which he entered guilty pleas. Staton attributed his behavior to “being stupid and having a bad habit.” He told Judge Lawton McIntosh that he apologizes to the owner of the stolen trailer, a person who he said he did not know. The trailer was worth 32 hundred dollars. Staton’s lawyer said his client’s life spun out of control, but he’s determined to work toward a better life. McIntosh attached a number of alcohol and substance abuse programs to the sentence, and told Staton, “You seem like a decent person.”
