Murder charge forwarded to grand jury

After a hearing this morning, a judge bound over to the grand jury a murder charge against a Fair Play man to the Oconee Grand Jury. Magistrate Blake Norton found probable cause to further consider the state’s case against Zack Daniel Patterson. In January, Patterson became the third person charged with murder in the death of Richard Alan Marszalek. Marszalek’s body was found in the rubble of a burned mobile home after he became the subject of a missing person’s report. At the pre-trial level this morning, Norton ruled after hearing the testimony of David McMahan, an investigator for the Oconee Sheriff’s Office.
