Murder Suspect Will Not Stand Trial

A judge has ruled that an 86 year old man accused of murder is incompetent to stand trial. Nicholas Bonelli appeared before Judge Cordell Maddox on Tuesday. Bonelli is accused of murdering a Westminster woman and her visiting niece. Last November, 82 year old Clarine Smith of Westminster and her niece, 62 year old Sandra Smith Myers were stabbed to death at Ms. Smith’s home on Smith Farm Road in Westminster. During the hearing Tuesday a Doctor stated that Bonelli suffers from dementia and a nurse with the Oconee Detention Center told the court that Bonelli’s physical condition had deteriorated since he has been incarcerated at the Oconee Detention Center. The family of the victims were displeased with the outcome of the hearing. The husband of Mrs Myers, Frank Myers stated justice was not being served. Chrissy Adams, the 10th Circuit Solicitor was also displeased with the result of Tuesday’s hearing, but she stated at least Bonelli would no longer be a threat to society.
