New airport director one month in

One of the first things Sam Carver noticed when he started work as the new director of the Oconee Regional Airport was a hole in the security fence, and he immediately wondered how it got there. That hole was courtesy of a previous night police chase in which the suspect crashed thru the fence. It has since been repaired, but Carver told the county’s aeronautics commissioners last night his philosophy is one of caution and he’s bent on ensuring a safe operation. That is why, he said, in his first month he has instituted a policy to conduct daily inspections of the airfield to make sure nothing is out there that shouldn’t be. The aeronautics commissioners’ first meeting with the successor to the retired Kevin Short included discussion of building additional hangars and extending further its recently-lengthened runway beyond the current five thousand feet.
