New building would reach 95 feet

A new request for a building exceeding Oconee’s height requirements will be considered this month by the county Board of Zoning Appeals. The board has scheduled a hearing at 6 o’clock Tuesday night, June 27 in County Council Chambers at Walhalla to consider the request of BASF, a chemical plant, to allow a 95-foot-high building at its location near Seneca. No immediate information available to 96.3/WGOG NEWS as to what the chemical plant intends for the new building. The county limits building heights to 65 feet. Duke Energy last month won a special exception to allow Duke Energy to construct an 81-foot office building within the protected area at the Oconee Nuclear Station.
