New Century Farm in OC

An Oconee County farm purchased way back in 1905 and, since then, owned continuously by the same family has attained a prominent distinction. The South Carolina Century Farms Program is announcing the designation of the William A. Taylor Farm as a Century Farm. Today the farm is owned by Edgar and Anna Taylor Zelaya of West Union. The Century Farms Program was created to honor families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years. The program was created in 1974 for Oconee, Anderson and Pickens counties. Since then, it has been expanded by the legislature into a statewide program. The program is administered by the Pendleton District Commission in Pendleton. The designation places no restrictions on the farm, nor does it offer legal protection. More than 350 South Carolina properties have been designated Century Farms.
