New developments in policeman’s arrest

An internal complaint to the police chief led to the arrest this week of a city policeman.  According to a statement issued yesterday afternoon by City Administrator Nancy Goehle, Zach Covington has been terminated from his employment.  The state Law Enforcement Division yesterday announced the arrest of the 25-year old Covington on the charge of assault and battery third degree.  An arrest affidavit alleges Covington struck a man three times in head during an incident Sunday at Walhalla Gardens Apartments.  Goehle’s statement reads:  “After consulting with the Solicitor, the matter was referred to SLED.  The subject of the complaint was terminated.  SLED is investigating.  The dash cam involved in the incident has been turned over to SLED.  Release of the dash cam is solely up to SLED.”
