New electric sub-stations to help grow south Oconee

New sub-stations constructed by Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative are positioned to meet growth in southern Oconee—especially in the areas where the county believes there’s a good chance for economic development. Charles Dalton, Blue Ridge president/CEO, spoke this morning about the new Port Bass substation and new transmission lines near Fair Play and how they are designed to serve what a four-mile stretch of I-85 in Oconee County. Dalton made a direct reference to the possibilities for the nearby Golden Corner Commerce Park, to which the county is trying to attract a Michelin North American operation. The construction by Oconee County of a sewer line from Seneca to the GCCP, Dalton believes, will make the area of south Oconee “could cause significant commercial and residential growth in the territory adjacent to the interstate.”
