New government inspectors at ONS

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have announced new inspectors at Duke’s Oconee nuclear power project. Ed Crowe will serve as senior resident inspector, transferring from an identical position at Alabama’s Farley nuclear plant. Gregory Croon joined the NRC in August 2011 as a project engineer in the Region II Division of Reactor Projects in Atlanta. More recently, Croon worked nine years with the Army Corps of Engineers, including two as an engineer in Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each operating U-S commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agency’s eyes and ears, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at a reactor site for up to seven years. The Oconee resident inspectors can be reached at 864/882-6927.
