New restaurant delayed

Plans for a new restaurant on Walhalla’s Main Street have been delayed—in part due to confusion over all of the requirements the restaurant must first meet. When David McMahon said he only found out recently that he was required to see the city about a grease trap, he was issued an apology from the mayor and the mayor pro-tem. McMahon said his plans to open Hot Diggity Dog and BBQ are costing him time and money, but he’s still determined to go through with the project. In recent years, the city contracted with the county to provide building code services. McMahon said he thought he had gone through all the required hurdles and was unaware of the city’s own law requiring grease traps for cooked food.
