New school still on budget

The project to build the new Walhalla High is still on budget. In fact, the school district’s top official, says it’s likely the new high school at Picket Post will cost less than the approved $54 million dollar budget. For the record today Dr. Michael Thorsland, county superintendent, clarified an estimate reported by a regional business publication. That estimate amounted to $47.8 million. But Thorsland says the $47.8 is the amount that goes to Trehel Corporation, the general contractor. It does not include the cost of the land and sewer.  The school plans to open this fall, and Thorsland predicts the final bill will fall under $54 million.
