New twist to the next sirens test

Duke Energy has scheduled tests of the emergency sirens within ten miles of the Oconee Nuclear Station.  Those tests will be run Wednesday, August 17 in Oconee County and Wednesday, August 24 in Pickens County.  These times the sirens are to be tested as part of new software installations.  As usual, the tests are scheduled for three minutes starting at 11:50 on those Wednesday mornings.  However, the sirens may be sounded several times as the testing progresses.  Hearing a siren does not mean to evacuate.  In emergencies, sirens are sounded as a signal to tune to a local radio or TV station that would carry an emergency alerting message.
