Newry church service disrupted

A week ago last night a man interrupted a church service at Newry.  These many days later the incident remains unsettling to those in the religious community and points up need for churches to do what they can to ensure that those who attend services are safe.  On the night of Sunday, July 12, according to an Oconee sheriff’s officer, a man burst into LydiaBaptistChurch carrying a bible and a pamphlet.  According to an account received by 96.3/WGOG NEWS, the man yelled, “What you are hearing here is not of God, it is heresy and you need to listen to me.”  An off-duty police officer was present, and the man was given an escort out.  The church doors were locked and the Sheriff’s Office was notified.
