Newry crime victimized state policeman

Oconee Sheriff’s Office has identified a man in custody who is suspected of having made his way into a parked state police vehicle and stole seized cash, SLED badges, two communications radios, and a loaded handgun—-among other state-owned property. According to information released to 96.3/WGOG NEWS, an investigator was in the process today of obtaining a warrant charging the individual with breaking into a motor vehicle. Most of the items stolen from the truck of a SLED agent are reported to have been recovered. The theft occurred Saturday night in Newry. The man in custody is also identified as a suspect in two other weekend crimes at Newry, including the theft of a baby stroller belonging to a young woman.
