Next ONS fire protection meeting next month

The meeting requested by Duke Energy ahead of what could be civil penalty over measures to protect Oconee Nuclear from fire takes place in three weeks near Washington, D-C. It’s to be a 1 to 3 o’clock meeting Tuesday, March 5 at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. According to an announcement by John Boska of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, “This meeting is to discuss with the licensee (Duke Energy) an apparent violation of a license condition on the fire protection program.” In keeping with policy to enhance public participation in NRC meetings, the public is invited as observers and will have opportunities to communicate with the NRC after the business portion, but before the meeting is adjourned. The government watchdog agency is offering the chance to take part through a toll-free audio teleconference.
