Pressure on the NFL to get their locked-out referees back on the field is intensifying, after a second week of games with replacement officials. Redskins linebacker Lorenzo Alexander explained it to The Washington Post: “It’s just like a team of rookies. If you’ve got a whole bunch of rookies on an NFL roster, you’re going to have a lot of mistakes out there.” Some players and coaches told the newspaper that the replacements nearly lost control of this week’s Redskins contest with the St. Louis Rams. But there’s no sign of a breakthrough in talks between the NFL and the Referees Association.
