Niagara Falls froze, so did Walhalla Pool

The freeze that gripped the country this week froze bodies of water—-all the way from Niagara Falls to the Walhalla Municipal Swimming Pool. But John Galbreath doesn’t want the cold temperatures to fool Walhalla city leaders. Galbreath, the city recreation director, told the mayor and council that January is not too soon to begin to think when they would like to open the re-furbished swimming pool for its first full season in several years. A project by public and private interests to re-habilitate the pool ran late into last summer, allowing for only a brief swimming season. But they are optimistic that municipal-sponsored swimming will become a regular offering once again in Walhalla. Mayor Danny Edwards says he thinks that Memorial Day weekend might be the best time to re-open the pool.
