No change in Oconee jobless rate (5.5%)

In the last full month of summer, no change was detected in Oconee County’s unemployment rate.  The 5.5% August jobless rate reported by the state represented no change from July.  In percentage comparisons, fewer Oconeeans are in the unemployment line than Pickens (5.6%,) but more than Anderson (5.2%.)  Both the state and the country, however, recorded lower jobless percentages.  The state was 5.1%; the nation, 4.9%.  In numbers, 33,504 members of Oconee’s 35,457 workforce were gainfully employed.  Out of work but looking to be hired were 1.953 county residents.
