No confirmation of downed plane

A call late last night from a Westminster area homeowner reporting a possible airplane crash set in motion a search. But no crash site was ever found, although Oconee County authorities are continuing to work with the FAA and the Civil Air Patrol for a further determination. Fire and EMS searchers were told by several residents that they saw the same low-flying plane. Two residents said the plane continued on its flight pattern toward Stephens County, Georgia. But, again, no evidence has been found of a crash. Anderson Sheriff’s Office employed a helicopter with a Forward Looking Infrared Camera. Airfields in Oconee and surrounding counties were notified to be on the watch for the aircraft.
