No discernible fire spread

Trace amounts of rain overnight added to the already wet conditions and prevented any discernible spread of the Pinnacle Mountain fire and any significant firefighting efforts. Division supervisors are scouting the perimeter of the containment area this morning, but for the second straight day, crews are not being dispatched to the lines of concern for safety. Wet roads, slick terrain and soaked ground will not allow for line improvement or back burning. An approaching cold front will move into the area this afternoon, bringing with it up to an inch of rain and further contributing to the fire’s containment. All air operations have been suspended again today as well. The heavy cloud cover and precipitation again disallowed infrared imagery of the fire overnight, but incident command officials may order a new flight this evening to get a new picture of the fire for tomorrow. Incident command officials stress that the incident is not over. Even if frontline firefighting resources are scaled back over the next few days because of the continued containment progress, line improvement operations and mop-up operations likely will continue for weeks.
